Sloan’s Shoes is Toronto’s premier destination for wide fitting comfort footwear for women and men and a school uniform shoe specialist.
This year they are celebrating 70 years in business! It all started back in 1952 when William Sloan retired from Maher shoes and set up his own shoe store. William ran the store with the help of his son Robert until 1965, when he retired from the shoe business. Robert (Bob) ran the store until 1992 until his son Steve took the reins and continues to run the store today with his wife Denise, continuing a Sloan tradition going for 70 years. Denise says “at Sloan’s shoes we take the time to listen, and with our wealth of knowledge we will ensure you are fitted with the best shoe for your purpose. We carry great shoe brands like Birkenstock, Clarks, Rockport, Vionic, New Balance, and more, along with shoes that are made for hard to fit feet that are stretchable to relieve bunions, etc.
Make a point to come into the store, as we will be featuring displays of artifacts from Sloan’s Shoes past. The first register, the stretching forms, the banners that were hand painted from William himself, and more. Come relive a part of Toronto’s history. While you are here, we would love to show you our great selection of new and exciting styles of sandals for both men and women. Let us help you find the perfect shoe for summer. Don’t forget to join us on Village Day (Sat, June 11, 2021) to take advantage of special deals.”
Toronto City Councillor Jaye Robinson, recently dropped in to Sloan’s Shoes to present Denise & Steve with a scroll to commemorate their 70th milestone anniversary. The scroll was signed by Jaye and Toronto Mayor John Tory.
We asked Denise Sloan a few questions about her business and what they feel about the Yonge Lawrence area.
Q: What does being located in the Yonge Lawrence Area mean to you?
A: This is home, and we have seen this area change a lot over the years, but what we love about being part of this area is the people and store owners, they have become family. You won’t find another area where everyone is so friendly and helpful.
Q: Do your customers come from across the GTA or are most of them local residents.
A: We are still your friendly neighborhood shoe store, but now we draw from a much larger area. With the larger box stores continuing to disappoint with poor service and knowledge, we have become a destination for good quality footwear, and excellent customer service for wide and hard to fit feet (bunions, hammer toes, etc.). Customers come from far and wide, making a trip into Toronto to see us.
Q: How do you stay connected with your customers?
A: Our website is incredible! Not only does it show you the footwear we carry, but the colours, and the sizes that are available. Join up for our newsletter to keep up to date with the new arrivals and promotions. You can always find us on Google and Facebook as well. We will always be known for offering full service, personalized help in-store, online and by telephone.
Q: Anything else you would like to say?
A: We are very proud to continue the Sloan’s Shoes legacy into its 70th year. William Sloan would be thrilled to know that his family is still serving the Yonge Lawrence community that he loved. Here is to many more years.
